Overview
This is a rare 1974 Toyota Crown Van (MS66V), known affectionately in Japan as the “Kujira” (Whale) Crown. This vehicle comes with valid registration papers, making it eligible for road registration.

Restored Components
We have performed extensive mechanical restoration to ensure the vehicle is in a running state:
Steering & Suspension
Replaced the rare pitman arm with a deadstock part; repaired the steering gearbox (new worm shaft and sector shaft seals); replaced all tie-rod end and idler arm boots with new parts.
Engine
Cleaned the points and carburetor; replaced the water pump with a new unit; serviced the alternator and repaired the contact-type regulator.
Radiator
The original radiator had pinholes and cracks causing leaks. Rather than replacing it with a modern substitute, which would have been faster, the shop meticulously restored the precious original unit using traditional brass plate and solder techniques.
Transmission & Drivetrain
Repaired oil leaks by replacing the engine rear seal, transmission input seal, and transmission rear oil seal; sealed the differential case bolts to prevent minor leaks.
Exhaust
Meticulously repaired the original muffler, with the sub-silencer replaced by a custom-fabricated pipe matching the original specs to maintain quiet, original sound.
Body & Frame
Removed old, deteriorated chassis undercoating and treated the frame with rust converter.
Electrical & Lighting
Converted the headlights from sealed beams to bulbs (halogen compatible); ensured all lights are functional; identified and repaired a short-circuit issue in the wiper motor connector.
Interior
The vehicle features a bench seat and a column shifter, commonly referred to in Japan as “Bench-Colla.” It has a strong, nostalgic Showa-era charm. It is equipped with an under-dash (hanging-type) cooler unit. The AM radio works intermittently.
The interior has only been cleaned and has not undergone any specific restoration. There is a tear in the seat surface of the front bench seat. As is common with classic cars of this era, there are also some cracks on the dashboard.

Tips: Origin of the nickname of ’KUJIRA’ in Japanese
‘KUJIRA’ means ‘whale’ in English.The straight line connecting the turn signals on the fenders looked like a whale’s Baleen.
Japanese car enthusiast have come to call #60 series CROWN ‘KUJIRA’ as a nickname to distinguish it from other previous crown series.
